You're in good hands

Alfie Noakes founded We Are Funny Project after more than 25 years across BBC journalism, television production and live comedy.

In television, he wrote, directed and produced for Channel 4, Channel 5, MTV and Universal. His presenters included Dr Brian Cox, Johnny Vaughan and Tess Daly.

He spent years working as a national BBC radio journalist. Then he moved into live comedy, where he produced around 1,800 shows and MC'd more than 1,000 of them.

On the comedy stage, he hosted shows headlined by Stewart Lee, Marcus Brigstocke and Simon Evans, among many others. He also gave early stage time and support to breakthrough talent, including Eshaan Akbar, Josh James, Sindhu Vee, Alasdair Beckett-King and Emmanuel Sonubi.

Today he works as a coach, trainer and facilitator. He has helped thousands of people improve their skills and performance. That's everyone from open-mic acts doing their first gig, to business leaders who need to communicate with more authority and confidence.

Is We Are Funny Project a comedy business or a corporate training business?
Both, properly. We run stand-up comedy courses and one-to-one coaching for comedians, and separately we run communication and performance workshops for business teams. The two sides share the same underlying craft, stand-up comedy, but the training itself, the content and who it's built for are completely different.

What's the difference between the business workshops and the comedy courses?
The business workshops teach communication, thinking on your feet and handling pressure. We use techniques drawn from stand-up comedy, delivered to teams in a corporate or away-day setting. The comedy courses and coaching are different. They teach the actual craft of stand-up: writing, performing and stagecraft, for people who want to get on stage themselves.

Do I need any comedy experience to book a business workshop?
No. The workshops are built for business teams with no performance background. You don't need to have ever done or wanted to do stand-up. The skills are communication skills, not performance skills, just taught through a comedy lens.

Can a business booking ever include comedy coaching for a team member?
Not typically, the workshops are for business teams and the comedy coaching is a separate service for individuals learning stand-up. There's one exception. If your away day includes a bespoke comedy show for the company afterwards, a team member can get up and have a go at stand-up in front of their colleagues. I'll help them prepare so they land it well on the night. That's part of the away-day experience, not a formal coaching package.
