This one day workshop is for people who are new to the world of sitcom writing. Perhaps you have written drama and want to branch into comedy, or are a stand up comedian who wants to develop a sitcom or maybe you are new to the world of comedy writing entirely.

Students will learn the fundamentals of sitcom writing , illustrated by examples from classic sitcoms. They will be set a number of practical exercises. e.g. inventing a comedy character, establishing a comic scenario and then present their work to the group and receive feedback.
It is a fun and practical workshop that looks at:
* What makes a good sitcom
* How to create a memorable comedy character
* How to maximise the comedy
* How to avoid common mistakes
* How to make your script stand out from the crowd
Stephen Carlin is an experienced stand up comedian and writer. He has written for TV, radio and other stand up comedians. He was awarded the Peter Titheradge writer’s bursary and spent a year as an in-house comedy writer at the BBC Radio Comedy department.
Stephen has also worked on script development with the BBC Writersroom. On the way he has read hundreds of sitcom scripts and has learned what works and what doesn’t. He wants to share his knowledge with you.
